What is Vetements de Couture?

Vetements de Couture is a fictitious top of the line clothing brand. In French, the word vetements means clothes and the word couture means to design or manufacture them. With these words, I hope to carry our brand name as one which designs and creates the finest apparels without compromising on their quality.

The Assignment

This was a combination of multiple different assignments where I had to come up with a logo design, UI mockups for several screens, and a style guide. I wanted to tackle something I was not used to doing so I decided to focus on designing a fictitious clothing store.

Research

Before jumping into any project, I start out by doing research and coming up with mood boards. This helps me to keep to and set the direction which I want my designs to go towards.

Logo Design

When designing my Logo, I first started off with paper sketches. Paper sketches allowed me to come up with multiple rough designs that could show what could work and what could not.

I focused on trying to keep it simple in order to give the brand a sense of austere and elitist feel. I also tried playing with different styles of font in order to see which would look the best as different fonts create a different feel for the brand. I eventually chose to go with fonts that  were thin and felt simple yet classy.

After a few iterations and short listing my designs, I re-did them digitally and added color to see how the final designs would look like. For the colors, I chose from sets of 2 colors which would contrast greatly in order for my logo to stick out in any background. Colors chosen also
tend to be more "mature" such as black, white, and gold.

From there, I singled out the design I felt would fit the brand the most and then tried to applied it on various items. to have a feel of how it would look like in practice.

In the end, I decided to go with the design with the needle and thread as it was more dynamic as compared to the other designs that were a little too stiff.

UI Mockups

For the UI Mockups, I designed a total of 9 screens and 1 popup screen to give a general idea about how my application will turn out. I decided to prioritize on pages that would be more important to a shopping app which includes the catalogue, the user's account screen, the log in screen, as well as screens for the entire checkout process.

I wanted the app to have a sense of elegance to it which is why the app is mainly in monochromatic colors and minimal colors to highlight certain elements.
